Go to the Movies: 5 movies, 1 weekend

What to see this weekend in Lancaster and Lititz, Oct. 9 to 11: a young Anthony Bourdain on Water Street, a fairy tale restored in 4K, and Homer on an IMAX screen.

There are more than 20 titles on screens around Lancaster County this weekend. Most of them can wait. These five shouldn't, and two of them won't be around much longer.

The pick: "Tony" at Zoetropolis

Before he was the most famous cook on television, Anthony Bourdain was a 19-year-old working in a Provincetown seafood kitchen in the 1970s. Director Matt Johnson's A24 film puts Dominic Sessa in the apron, with Antonio Banderas as the restaurant's owner and Leo Woodall as a hard-partying oyster shucker.

WBUR critic Sean Burns called much of the story invented but the result satisfying: "They're cooking up comfort food, and 'Tony' delivers."

The right place to see it is Zoetropolis, the downtown art house that pairs its screen with an onsite micro distillery. A movie about a kitchen plays better with a drink in hand.

Where: Zoetropolis, 112 N. Water St., Lancaster
When: Friday at 5 and 7 p.m.; Saturday at 12:45 and 3 p.m.; Sunday at 1, 3, and 5 p.m.
Details: Rated R, 1 hour, 47 minutes. The run ends Oct. 17.

Staying downtown Saturday night? Zoetropolis follows the matinees with a Halloween costume party at 7:30 p.m., with the Lancaster goth group Autumn & The Afterthoughts, DJ Stygian, and Weird Mirror. The dress code: your favorite slasher.

The revival: "Pan's Labyrinth," 20 years on

Guillermo del Toro's 2006 dark fairy tale, about a girl in Franco's Spain who finds a labyrinth and the faun who lives in it, won three Oscars, for cinematography, art direction, and makeup. It returns to theaters Friday in a restoration del Toro supervised, shown theatrically in 4K for the first time, according to distributors Cineverse and Fathom Entertainment. Fathom lists the run as Oct. 9 to 15. It is a film that was made for a big screen and has spent most of its life on small ones.

It is not a children's movie. It is rated R for good reason.

Where: Penn Cinema & IMAX, 541 Airport Road, Lititz; Regal Manor, 1246 Millersville Pike, Lancaster
When: Penn Cinema, Friday and Saturday at 4:15, 7, and 9:45 p.m., Sunday at 4:15 p.m.; Regal Manor, Saturday at 11:20 a.m.
Details: Rated R, 1 hour, 58 minutes. In Spanish with English subtitles.

The last call: "The Odyssey" in IMAX

Christopher Nolan's take on Homer opened July 17 and is down to a handful of showings a day. It was shot with IMAX film cameras, and Penn Cinema in Lititz is still running it on an IMAX screen. The film arrives on digital and 4K disc Nov. 17. If you have been meaning to see Matt Damon's Odysseus, with Anne Hathaway as Penelope and Tom Holland as Telemachus, at the size it was built for, the window is closing.

Where: Penn Cinema & IMAX, Lititz
When: Friday at 11:45 a.m. and 7:50 p.m.; Saturday at 11:30 a.m., 3, and 5:20 p.m.; Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and 7:10 p.m. Pick an IMAX showing when you buy.
Details: Rated R, 2 hours, 52 minutes.

For the family: "Forgotten Island"

Official trailer for "Forgotten Island." Video: Universal Pictures

DreamWorks Animation's newest follows two best friends from the Philippines, voiced by H.E.R. and Liza Soberano, who are pulled by a magic sand dollar onto an island where lost memories are kept. Directors Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado based the story on their own friendship. Reviewer Hunter V. Norris of AZFamily found the jokes a bit much but called it "the best-looking animated film of 2026 so far."

Where: Penn Cinema & IMAX, Lititz; Regal Manor, Lancaster
When (Saturday): Penn Cinema at 10:25 a.m., 12:50, 4:05, and 6:35 p.m.; Regal Manor at 12:50, 3:40, 6:30, and 9:25 p.m. Both theaters also show it Friday and Sunday.
Details: Rated PG, 1 hour, 49 minutes.

For the brave: "Pet Sematary" (1989)

October calls for at least one bad idea. Regal Manor is screening the 1989 adaptation of Stephen King's novel on Saturday, the kind of horror movie that plays best in a full room of people who should know better.

Where: Regal Manor, Lancaster
When: Saturday at 2:45, 5:30, and 8:15 p.m.
Details: Rated R, 1 hour, 43 minutes.

Next weekend

Zoetropolis screens "Get Out" on Oct. 15 in its Philosophy-Drink-Film series and John Carpenter's "The Thing" on Oct. 18. Penn Cinema brings back "Spirited Away" for its 25th anniversary as part of Studio Ghibli Fest, Oct. 17 to 21, and tickets are on sale now.

Showtimes are as listed by the theaters on Thursday, Oct. 8, and can change. Check with the theater before you go.
