Corrections
If we got something wrong, we want to know, and we will fix it.
Report an error
Email editor@lancasterindependent.com with the headline or link, what is wrong, and how you know. An editor reads every request and will reply.
What we do about it
- Factual errors are corrected in the story as soon as we have confirmed them. A note at the bottom of the story says what was changed and when.
- Clarifications are added when a story was accurate but could reasonably be misread.
- Updates are marked as updates when new information arrives after publication.
- Typos and small style fixes are made without a note.
What we don’t do
We do not quietly rewrite stories to hide a mistake, and we do not remove accurate reporting because someone would prefer it had not been published. Requests to take a story down are reviewed by the editor case by case, with particular care where the story involves a minor or a minor offense from long ago.
